Improve the manufacture of particleboard and low pressure melamine panels

Dr Raymond Roberts

I am a consultant physicist in the field of wetting physics specialising in wood panels manufacture and the use of paper in laminates. I specialise in liquid (such as resins) spreading on wood fibre, flake and full panels as well as liquid impregnation into paper. I can also modify paper, wood and resins to improve absorption and spreading of liquids. I also specialise in improving particleboard and laminated particleboard manufacture particularly improving machinability of LPM by eliminating chipout a significant issue with particleboard laminates. I can also improve blending efficiency through the use of multi-phase wetting enhancers in conjunction with optimising blender horn and paddle settings which are a big improvement on original manufacturers setups resulting in significant resin savings, density reductions and improved physical properties.

I am in a unique position where I have been in the panels industry in senior technical and production management roles for many years as well as undertaking high level research during the attainment of my PhD at the Australian National University including solving the physics of fluid flow in paper which encompasses almost any use of paper. I can therefore optimise manufacturing processes given my operational and research knowledge.
